Tess Marks lives and works in southern California, where she is developing an ongoing body of work (painting, sculpture, film, writing) centered on the interior landscape. Marks approaches painting as a form of contemplation.

Working through allegorical scenes, she constructs her works where familiar rooms, landscapes, and symbolic forms dissolve into psychological landscapes. She invites viewers to inhabit the work rather than decode it. Her work often explore the tension between confinement and freedom, despair and hope, absence and presence, asking how the unseen realities of the mind shape our experience of the tangible world.
